Gap Sand 20kg Bag
Gap Sand 20kg Bag
Gap Sand is a special blend of graded fine sands and additives designed to lock into place all types of brick and block paving.
PLEASE NOTE Gap Sand is suitable for filling joints up to 3mm maximum. It is not designed to function as a grout. Finished Gap Sand will be firm, but not hard. For larger joints, Cement Australia Sand & Cement is recommended.
Please see all the limitations below before use.

- Forms a workable yet stable joint between pavers, up to 3mm gap
- Inhibits weed & insect infestation
- Minimises paver distortion
- Covers approx 3.5m2 for brick shaped pavers; 122 for 400mm square pavers, 50mm depth
Step One
Lay pavers as per manufacturer’s instructions. Sweep Gap Sand into all joints using a stiff broom, until all gaps are filled.
Step Two
Work a vibrating compactor, rubber mallet or similar piece of equipment over the entire paved area to assist the flow of filler into the joints and to ensure the joints are firm.
Step Three
Thoroughly sweep the paved surface, topping up where necessary and remove all excess surface sand.
Step Four
Mist spray the paved surface ensuring that all areas receive a thorough wetting. Avoid heavy spraying or flooding of areas. When Gap Sand is dry and firm, paving is ready for traffic
Allow 3 days for the Gap Sand to bond the pavers into place before using the paved area.
COVERAGE
Brick shaped pavers: One 20kg bag covers approximately 3.5 m2 at a 3mm gap
400mm Square pavers: One 20kg bag covers approximately 12m2 at a 3mm gap
LIMITATIONS
- Gap Sand is not a cement based product and therefore does not stay permanently firm like mortar.
- When Gap Sand is wet from either hosing or rain, or from dampness raising from the sub base, it is soft and pliable and reacts like wet sand, albeit a little ‘stickier’
- Only when it is completely dry does Gap Sand form a firm bond between the pavers
- Care should be taken whenever paving is hosed not to point the water stream directly into the gaps as this will dislodge wet sand
- Gap Sand is not recommended for use in paving where the gaps are greater than 3mm wide. Cement Australia’s Sand & Cement, swept in dry or mixed wet, is recommended for paving with gaps wider than 3mm
- Gap Sand is not recommended for areas where pavers are subject to continual exposure to moisture - EG: pavers around the pool
STORAGE & HANDLING
- Gap Sand should be stored in a dry place, off the ground and be protected from ingression of moisture
- The recommended shelf life is approximately 6 months from date of manufacture. This is provided the product is stored as recommended above. Once opened, the bag must be used on that day
